Renewable Energy

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), renewable energy consumption increased by about 8% between 2008 and 2009, contributing about 8% of the Nation's total energy demand, and 10% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2009. The EIA projects that renewable-generated electricity will account for 17% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2035, up from 9% in 2008. The largest share of the renewable-generated electricity in 2009 came from hydroelectric energy (66%), followed by wind (17%), wood (9%), biomass waste (4%), geothermal (4%), and solar (0.2%). Wind-generated electricity increased by 61% between 2007 and 2008 and by 28% between 2008 and 2009, more than any other renewable source of generation in both years. These increases were due primarily to newly-constructed wind power plants.

Although the demand for renewable energy production is increasing, renewable energy projects can generally be more capital intensive to build and operate than coal and natural gas plants. Ruby Canyon provides feasibility studies of alternative revenue sources such as renewable energy credits (RECs) or carbon credits to help wind and solar project developers offset the project costs. We also provide technical advice and project design documents for wind energy projects. Ruby Canyon also continually monitors the evolving State and Federal renewable energy laws and regulations and can assist project developers understand the market changes and potential renewable energy project opportunities.
