Emission Reduction Assessment

Ruby Canyon engineers have extensive experience working with geologists and coal mine ventilation engineers assessing the methane drainage options available to underground coal mines. We provide numerical simulation services that can be used to compare the possible outcomes of different drainage scenarios and strategies. The staff is knowledgeable in in-mine horizontal drilling techniques, vertical gob well placement, surface directional drilling, and pre-mining methane drainage well spacing.

Resource Development Assessment

An accurate assessment of the recoverable methane resource is essential in determining if a methane utilization project will be economically viable. The staff at Ruby Canyon has extensive knowledge of and experience in coal mine methane resource assessment. We will design a data gathering program that can be utilized in determining the methane resource in-place and how fast and how much of this resource will be recovered under various drainage options.

Emission reduction project validation and verification

RCE participated in the generation of ACM0008, the combined methodology for methane emission reductions from underground coal mines as accepted by the UNFCCC under the Clean Development Mechanism. RCE also helped several clients in developing PDDs and obtaining project validation under CDM. RCE recently provided modifications to this protocol to allow for the quantification of emission reductions from surface coal mines under the Verified Carbon Standard and has helped clients register VRUs from emission reductions at abandoned coal mines.
