GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Ruby Canyon Engineering (RCE), an engineering consulting company whose main focus is greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has been awarded a contract based in Moscow, Russia, for the final evaluation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Global Environment Facility (GEF) Project.
The objective of this project is to contribute to the abatement of GHG emission by implementing commercially feasible coal mine methane recovery and utilization projects in Russia. The feasibility of this project provided a basis for a wide-scale replication of similar projects in the future and support the establishment of a specialized ìCoal Mine Methane Recovery and Utilization Companyî (CMMRUC).
Michael Coté, President of RCE, traveled to Siberia in July to visit with the director of Uglemetan (CMMRUC), government officials, coal mine company representatives, as well as inspect the methane recovery and utilization projects. RCE expects to complete the evaluation by September.
UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. According to the UNDP, the poor are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation and lack of access to clean, affordable energy services. UNDP helps countries strengthen their capacity to address these challenges at global, national and community levels, seeking out and sharing best practices, providing innovative policy advice and linking partners through pilot projects that help poor people build sustainable livelihoods.
