Grand Junction, Colo. (June 8, 2010) – Ruby Canyon Engineering (RCE), an engineering consulting company whose main focus is greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, is now recognized and qualified to verify three new Climate Action Reserve (CAR) sectors.  The sectors RCE is now available to verify include Nitrous Oxide (N20), Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and Landfills in Mexico.

“In the past we’ve been verifying mostly methane-related projects,” RCE President Mike Coté said.  “These new CAR protocols encompass a variety of other greenhouse gases and broaden the range of sectors for offset projects.”

With these new verification capabilities, RCE will provide third-party verification services for N2O abatement projects at nitric acid production facilities, including synthetic commercial fertilizer and the destruction of ozone depleting substances (as identified by the 1987 Montreal Protocol) such as appliance refrigerants and building insulation foams.  RCE is approved to conduct ODS verifications for CAR in the United States and any Article 5 countries.  Finally, RCE is now able to perform landfill methane verifications at Mexican landfills in addition to the United States.

“With these new verification qualifications, we are now a full-service validating and verifying service provider,” Coté said.

In addition to working with N20, ODS and landfill gas projects, RCE is a third party verifier for coal mine methane, livestock, organic waste digestion projects and transportation projects.  RCE has been ISO 14065 accredited under the American National Standards Institute since 2009.  To cover the forestry sector projects, RCE has partnered with Environmental Services, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based forestry verifier.

As a qualified third-party validation and verification body, RCE gives confidence and transparency to parties that depend on the accuracy of greenhouse gas credits or offsets for their business.

About Ruby Canyon Engineering

Ruby Canyon Engineering Inc. (RCE) was founded in 2005 as an organization dedicated to facilitating greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction projects. RCE is well versed in all aspects of the carbon project cycle and registering projects in today’s voluntary carbon market in the United States (Climate Action Reserve, Chicago Climate Exchange, American Carbon Registry) and internationally (Kyoto Protocol, Voluntary Carbon Standard).  RCE provides a broad range of technical consulting services to companies wishing to conduct GHG inventories, report emissions to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and plan carbon management strategies.  The company’s expert services as a technical assistance provider include developing corporate GHG inventories, emissions management, emission reduction project identification, baseline methodology development, project documentation and monitoring, economic feasibility studies and third-party validation and verification.  RCE received its American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation under ISO 14065 – requirements for GHG validation and verification bodies – in October 2009.
