Methane Mitigation
Because methane is 23 times more potent than carbon
dioxide as a greenhouse gas, methane capture and use projects can
reap significant monetary rewards with today’s high energy
prices and with returns from carbon trading mechanisms. Two significant
sources
of anthropogenic methane release to the atmosphere are the coal
mining industry and the oil and gas industry. Opportunities exist
for substantial
emission reductions in these two sectors such that companies can
benefit economically and environmentally through the capture and
use of this
clean burning energy source.
