Ozone Depleting Substances

Release of ODS to the atmosphere contributes to the depletion of the ozone layer, but ODS are also considered a GHG. The Montreal Protocol, the agreement which created a framework to limit and eventually eliminate the production of most ODS, controls only production and consumption of ODS and not emissions. Project developers destroying ODS are eligible to receive GHG emission reduction credits from the destruction of ODS sourced from and destroyed within the US, and in some cases sourced from Article 5 countries, that would have otherwise been released to the atmosphere.

Ruby Canyon Engineering has completed several verifications of project emission reductions under the Climate Action Reserve's ODS Project Protocol and has provided consulting services for other ODS projects.
