Methane MitigationMethane Mitigation

Because methane is an important clean-burning energy source (and 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas), methane capture and use projects can provide significant energy, economic and environmental benefits. Methane emissions sources include landfills, natural gas and petroleum systems, agricultural activities, coal mining, and wastewater treatment. RCE has worked in project development and/or third party verifications of emission reduction projects included in all of the aforementioned sources. Because methane remains in the atmosphere for approximately fifteen years, methane capture and use projects can help provide a better understanding of climate change science whereas the affects of carbon dioxide reductions (100 year residence time) will not be known for future generations.
